Historical note: Georgetown College, the first Baptist college west of the Allegheny Mountains, was chartered and incorporated in 1829 by members of the Kentucky Baptist Education Association. Clergy. Varden, a native of Norfolk County, England, came to the United States at an early age. After graduating from Georgetown College in 1858, Varden held pastorates at a number of central Kentucky churches, including the Paris Baptist Church, Paris, Ky.
